Windows
Art Project 2001 - Time is Money is Art
This
piece was made for the Windows Art Project for July, 2001. It
consists of ten frames; five above and five below, and sits in the
Middlesex
Federal Savings Bank in Davis Square between College and Highland
Avenues,
across from Statue Park. The five top frames show the progression
of a dollar bill to an origami dollar bill sign ($); the five bottom
frames
show how a penny, at 6% interest, will compound to $1.00 over time,
with
a few pieces of financial wisdom at key points along the way.
This
is the statement that accompanies the piece:
"Time
Is Money is Art" Windows Art Project 2001 by A. Anselmo
"Time
Is Money" uses the ubiquitous dollar bill to show the passage
of time in a series of panels, installed most appropriately,
in a bank. The use of simple graphs shows how
money changes
over time in the classical, economic sense, while the transformation a
dollar bill through the Japanese art of origami is used to show
how
money can also change in time, from money to art.
A
one page, condensed version of the installation will be given away
to the audience, so they too, can tranform their own time and money
into
works of art.
Here, in five pictures, are the
frames "Time", "is", "Money", "is",
"Art"; click on the picture to get a larger view of each
element.
